Winchester 101 Over and Under Shotgun

The Winchester 101 Over and Under Shotgun

The shooters on the Skeet field were very confident with their expensive clothes and very nice expensive shotguns. My friend and felt out of place in our cutoff blue jean shorts and our common shotguns. I had my father's trusty old Remington 870 and he was sporting his dad's Ithaca model 37. That was until the shooting started anyway.

One guy on the field was shooting a Winchester 101 over and under. He was quite cocky and was happy to bet that way. He was a pretty good shooter. He shot a consistent 22 or 23 out of 25. I, never being one to shy away from a friendly wager was glad I had sold a BMX bike the day before and had $500 bucks in my pocket. The wager was $100 a round . I came in second place for the first five rounds. My friend could hardly keep a straight face as I Suggested double the last five rounds pot or nothing for the next round. The man took the bet confidently. The gentleman shot a good round. He shot a 23. He knew he had been hustled when the old 870 broke bird number 24. Needless to say I collected the pot and we got out of there!

The Winchester 101 is an Over and under shotgun. The 101 was made in Japan for Winchester by the Olin Kodensha plant from 1963 to 1987. Currently Winchester offers the 101 made in Italy. The Japanese guns were made in 12, 20, 28 and 410 gauges. They were very well crafted sleek over and under designed to compete with the Brownings and Berettas of the day. Today they are highly collectible especially in the sub gauges. They came in Field Grade, Pigeon Grade and Diamond grade. The field grade even has some nice roll engraving on the receiver.
