Ithaca Model 49

The Ithaca Model 49

It is 1960. Every American kid that had 69 cents and could get to a movie theater to see the Magnificent Seven did. I have never seen the original movie but I bet it was good. It was recreated in 2016 staring Chris Platt ( I guess he ran out of dinosaurs to hunt). From my experience most movies that enjoy a remake were good the first time around.

My guess is that every red blooded boy that saw the movie dreamed about being Steve McQueen. Most in likely they also dreamed of owning a Colt Single Action army or a Winchester rifle. The problem was A Model 94 Winchester was about $80 dollars. That was more money than most kids could afford in 1960.

I believe that is one of the reasons the Ithaca Model 49 was born. The single shot 22 looked like a Winchester lever action but only had a price tag of $20 dollars. In 1960 that was more in line with what most kids could afford. The Ithaca 49 was made from 1960 until 1979. It was a Martini style action that was operated by a lever. It would shoot 22 Shorts, longs or long rifle. The Model 49 could also be had in the 22 Magnum caliber. The neat little rifle weighs in at 3 and 3/4 pounds. The gun even had a faux magazine tube to complete the Winchester look.
