H&R Topper Model

The H&R Topper Model

A friend called me last week and told me about a gun buy back in the town I live in. It was on a Saturday that I did not have a gun show so I went online and read about it. It sounded good to me. They were giving Visa Gift Cards in the amounts of $300 for long guns, $200 for Pistols and $100 for revolvers. There was no mention of limits on how many you could bring. I guess my first mistake was not calling and asking about the unmentioned details.

The morning of the event I piled up about 10 single shot H&R Topper type shotguns and headed off to collect $300 each. The event started at 10 am and when I arrived at 10:30 am there were about 50 cars in line in a grid lock. After a few minutes with no movement I started taking a survey of the cars in the line. Out of 51 cars in line only one was older than 10 years and most were worth over 20 thousand dollars. My gut told me that the the guns they were selling were not the kind that end up in the street. At this point I got out of my truck and approached a what appeared to be a police service tech to ask some questions. Boy, I was glad I did. My questions revealed the scam. They were only accepting one gun of each type per vehicle. What a waste of my tax dollars. Needless to say, I left.

The H & R Topper is a single shotgun. It is a break open single shot meat getter. They are made in 12, 20, and 410 gauge currently. They have full size and Junior models available. The gun has an external hammer that has to be cocked before firing. This makes it a great first shotgun.
