AMT Backup 45

The AMT Backup 45

Before the pocket pistol was made mostly of polymer they we're heavier and had steel or aluminum frames. The Glock 43,Glock 42, Smith & Wesson M&P, Taurus TCP, Ruger LCP and the Keltec Pt series guns all sport a polymer frame. The pocket pistols of the past although usually are a bit heavier than the modern options but are still viable carry guns today. One such example of this is the AMT Backup in .45 ACP.

I have fond memories of the first time I got my hands on one. A guy that worked for me at the time was also a Deputy sheriff, he was also a .45 guy and just had to have one. Our dealer at the time was friends with the guys at AMT. He ordered one for my friend right after their announcement that they were gonna be produced. The AMT they shipped was serial number 63. We picked it up and went straight to the range. Other than the felt recoil the gun shot well and was accurate at 15 yards.

The AMT Backup was a Double Action only pistol in .45 ACP. This hard hitting little gun weighs 23 ounces and only 5.7 inches overall in length. It was manufactured in stainless steel which is nice for a concealed carry piece. It holds 5 plus one rounds. The little .45 has a non catching sight slot. It is really quite a nice little pocket gun.
